I’m a big fan of a future-oriented board. Stuff not done is all future stuff. Normally we draw timelines with future stuff on the right hand side and past stuff on the left hand side. A ‘future flow board’:

  • pulls the future towards you;
  • naturally exhibits pull behavior when ‘walking the board’;
  • supports our working from left to right habit;
  • evokes a more natural behavior to replenish any future states that drop below the low water mark;
  • helps to create a shared vision, maybe even goal;
  • provides a kind of roadmap towards future releases;
  • maps elegantly to a story map (rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise);
  • make shake up and open minds for new ideas;
  • may need some time to catch on;
